Mike Honegger

What is your favorite book/author, and why?
My favorite author is Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. I have a brother who is 10 years older than I am who majored in English in college. He read quite a bit of Vonnegut while there, and he would give me books to read after he was finished with them. Reading these hand-me-down Vonnegut books helped me develop a life-long love of reading. It also showed me how to question things that I saw in the world that I didn't agree with, and that it was OK to believe in the things I felt strongly about as long as I had come by those beliefs on my own. 

How long have you been a member of our community? What's your favorite thing to do in the Grayslake Area?
I have lived in the Grayslake Area since 2006. I grew up in a small farm town in central Illinois, and I lived in Chicago for a few years. I love that Grayslake is kind of a happy medium between those worlds. I particularly enjoy the many festivals and events in the area, as well as trying new restaurants and breweries.

What's your educational background?
I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Finance from the University of Phoenix. 

Who is in your family?
I live with my wife, Mary Honegger. We also have two cats: Max, who we got as a kitten about 7 years ago, and Sam, who we just adopted from Mary's mom.

Fun fact?
I am an accomplished home brewer and baker. I often provide treats for family events.
