Library Closure and Reopening Plans
The Library building remains closed to the public until further notice following Gov. Pritzker's Stay at Home Order. As we are planning for a careful, phased re-opening, ensuring the safety of the public, our staff, and the community is our highest priority. We value your trust and will use it as a guidepost for all our decision making.
Work has been underway to assure that when the staff return to the building there is adequate PPE and sufficient, effective disinfecting and cleaning supplies, without taking away from the supply needed for top-priority medical workers and first responders.
Currently, careful plans are underway for curbside pickup, tentatively scheduled for June, although this can change depending on information from local, state, and federal health authorities and other organizations.
We are creating and will utilize best practices based on research and guidance from public health officials. Since items in libraries travel through the community when they are sent, returned, and sent out again this requires us to have added layers of precaution and procedures. Implementation considerations include great attention to safe material handling, social distancing, and logistics of the physical building in regard to traffic, accessibility, and other factors.
