Get a Library Card

Welcome! A library card is available to all Grayslake Area Public Library district residents – and best of all, it’s free!

Want to find out if your address is within our district? View the district map here!

You may apply for a library card in person at the Library or online.

Apply in Person

Bring a valid photo ID and recent proof of your current address (see a full list here) to the library. Check out items the same day!

If you are under the age of 18 and unable to provide proof of identity and/or address, your parent or legal guardian must accompany you to provide the information and sign your application.

Apply Online

Complete our online form and you will receive your temporary library card number via email within three business days. Access our digital collection and digital resources, from anywhere, 24/7. Visit the library within 3 months to receive your physical card!

We would be happy to have you visit us and use our library! Bring your valid home library card and a current photo ID with you to register it with us and check out physical materials.

Your library card is valid for a period of three years. Once we verify that you’re still in our district, we’ll renew it for another three years!

Only if you want! Let us know in advance if you want to give permission for others to access your account. See our policy “Allowing Others Access to Your Account”  for more details!

If you lose your card, please let us know immediately so you can prevent any unauthorized activity on your account. Next time you visit, we’ll issue you a replacement card free of charge!

Businesses and organizations within the Grayslake Area Public Library District are eligible for cards! See this page for more information.

The following Board of Trustees policies apply to library card registration and use. If you have further questions, please contact us at 847-223-5313.
