We are happy to offer curbside pickup for your library materials!
Follow these steps to request and pick up library materials.
- Place items on hold.
Use our website to search the catalog for items and request an item by clicking on “Place Hold.” Enter your library card number and PIN (last four digits of your phone number).
- Wait for confirmation that your items are ready. You will be notified by email, phone, or text when your items are available.
- Visit us during Curbside Pickup hours to pick up your items!
During winter or other times of possible inclement weather, call 847-223-5313 BEFORE coming to the library to verify Curbside Pickup is available.
- When you arrive at the library, park at the front of the building and give us a call to let us know you’re here!
Call 847-223-5313, and the next available staff person will take your call.
If your call goes to voicemail, please do not leave a message; call back again in a couple of minutes. We will take your call as soon as possible!
Open your window or trunk and wait for us inside your car while we confirm your account and the availability of items.
We’ll place a bag with your checked-out materials in your car and will signal that you may close your window/trunk.
Staff cannot take return items from you.
If you have items to return, place them in either the drive-up or walk-up book drops.
Who Can Use Curbside Pick Up?
Anyone with a valid Grayslake Area Public Library card, or if you have a card from another library that has been previously registered with us.
Don’t have a Grayslake Library card? You can apply for a card online. You will receive an email with a temporary* card number that can be used for placing holds for curbside pickup. With a temporary card you will also have access to eBooks and eAudiobooks, streaming movies, databases, online learning tools, and more, from anywhere, 24/7.
*Temporary Cards are for Grayslake Area Public Library District Residents Only.
When Is Curbside Pickup Available?

What Type Of Items Are Eligible For Curbside Pickup?
Books, movies, video games, music CDs, audiobooks, magazines, book club books, out of system loan materials, and most Library of Things items are all eligible for curbside pickup.

Not Available At This Time:
- Library of Things items that require a signed Technology / Telescope agreement: telescopes, Chromebooks, sewing machines, VR kits, Silhouette Cameo, and heat press.
When Can I Return My Checked Out Materials?
- Book drops are open every day, 24 hours a day.
- Returns may be placed in either the drive-up or walk-up drops. The staff is unable to accept returns in person.
