Accommodations

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the library is accessible. If you are in need of a sign language interpreter and/or hearing devices, please notify library staff in advance of your visit.

The library collection contains sign language books and videos, read-along books, audiobooks on CD and Playaways, large print books, as well as eBooks and eAudiobooks.

Assistive Devices & Sensory Kits

We have a selection of assistive devices and sensory kits available for any patron to use while in the library, including the following:

• • A new desktop Optelec ClearView C Speech reading magnifier with speech mode available in our Business Center (and donated by the Lions Club of Grayslake).
  • A variety of handheld magnifying devices that maybe used throughout the library, as well as several in our Library of Things collection available for checkout.
  • Adaptive scissors in our makerspace, The Hub, and available for checkout.
  • Large-format computer keyboards and mice with trackballs that may be used at the public computers upon request.

• Built-in Ease of Access, Narrator, and Dictator functions on the public computers.

• Sensory Kits on our second floor including noise-cancelling headphones, sensory brushes and fidget toys, and wobble cushions.
• Small shopping carts located on the 1st floor to use in the library to carry books and other materials as you browse.

Our social stories for Adults & Teens and Youth describe everything you and your family can expect to experience while visiting the library. Read them online here before visiting, or use a physical copy near our front entrance during your visit!

Home Services

Our Home Services bring the library directly to those who can’t visit in person due to physical disability, illness, or limited mobility, offering a free monthly delivery of books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs, and more. Residents within the library district qualify if they’re temporarily or permanently homebound, allowing them to enjoy the library’s offerings without leaving their home. Each month, our outreach staff will work with patrons to select materials based on their preferences. Signing up is easy—just call (847) 665-1035 or email homebound@grayslake.info to start receiving library materials delivered to your door at no cost!

Curbside Pickup & Printing

We offer free curbside pickup of your holds, 3D prints, and Grab & Go print requests! We are happy to offer curbside pickup for your library materials! Learn more here.

Talking Book & Braille Service

The Illinois State Library provides audio and braille library service via mail or digital download to any Illinois resident who is unable to read standard print material due to a permanent or temporary visual or physical disability through the Talking Books program. All books, catalogs, and equipment are provided free of charge to eligible residents. Visit the Talking Books and Braille Service at the State Library for more information on this program or to apply.
