LIBRARY POSITION OPEN CIRCULATION CLERK DEPARTMENT Circulation TITLE Circulation Clerk I SALARY RATE $11.11/hr starting pay HOURS Approximately 8.5 hours per week SCHEDULE Fridays 1-6:15pm; and every fourth Saturday 9am-5:15pm and Sunday 12:15-5:15pm. The Circulation Department is looking for someone who is bright, cheerful, likes to work with the public and wants to work in a friendly environment. Requirements include: a minimum of a high school diploma, computer knowledgeable, experience working with the public and must be flexible in scheduling. Benefits include: 2 weeks paid vacation, sick days, holiday pay, and personal days. Participation in dental insurance, life and long-term disability insurance, and deferred compensation are optional. Fridays 1-6:15pm; and every fourth Saturday 9am-5:15 pm and Sunday 12:15-5:15 pm FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT Non exempt. BENEFITS Two weeks pro-rated vacation, paid holidays, sick days and personal days, optional participation in deferred compensation plan. Dental insurance available. SUPERVISOR Circulation Department Head QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred. EXPERIENCE Library experience helpful PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES Dependable, attentive to detail, flexible in scheduling, cheerful, must like working with public, neat in appearance BASIC FUNCTIONS Staffing the circulation desk, checking in and checking out of library materials, collecting fines and other monies, answering phones and dispensing library information to the public by phone and in person. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Duties at Circulation desk to include checking material out to patrons • Checking in returned materials • Answering the phone • Registering new patrons and update existing patron records • Perform other circulation desk functions as needed • Process holds, which includes trapping the hold and notifying patron of hold • Accept and account for payments to the library for fines, lost/damaged materials and other misc. sales OTHER FUNCTIONS • Registering voters • Attend departmental and other meetings as needed • Perform other duties as assigned ABILITY TO • Strive for excellence in services provided to patrons and staff. • Reach, grasp and finger library materials and supplies. • Bend, twist, stoop and reach books and other library materials on shelving from floor height to 7ft. high, using step stools as needed; push loaded book carts and be able to lift items up to 35lb. • Operate a computer terminal and word processing equipment. • Manipulate a variety of equipment such as computers, computer printers, scanners, typewriters and telephones. • Perform detailed work accurately. • Work with a variety of staff members in a cordial and congenial manner. • Use language skills to effectively communicate with the general public and with staff in person, on the telephone and in writing. • Use tact and diplomacy working with the general public and with staff in person, on the telephone and in writing. • Work with the necessary speed and accuracy to accomplish the duties of the circulation clerk. • Work independently. • Conduct all library business in a professional and cooperative manner. • Understand and follow supervisory guidance. • Adhere to attendance requirements • Exercise good judgment. • Take the initiative when necessary
