Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 1-5pm

The Circulation Department is looking for someone who is bright, cheerful, likes to work with the public and wants to work in a friendly environment.

Normal duties include checking in returned items, shelving books and other materials, keeping book shelves in correct and neat order and helping staff with special projects.  Applicants must be able to push carts, have mobility to bend and reach, attention to detail and be able to communicate well in person.

AUTHORITY

Approximately 100% of the activities must be approved by the department head.  Once approved, the aide, at his/her discretion, may act as he/she desires 75% of the time for implementation.  The work may need occasional supervisory direction.

QUALIFICATIONS

     EDUCATION

At least two years of high school

     EXPERIENCE

Library experience helpful

     PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

Dependable, attentive to detail, flexible in scheduling, neat in appearance, personable manner

 

 

BASIC FUNCTIONS

The library aide is responsible for checking in and reshelving returned library materials and maintaining the shelves in alphabetical and Dewey order.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•         Check in items returned in book drops

•         Sort and reshelve library material returned to the circulation desk

•         “Read” shelves i.e. put shelves in alphabetical and Dewey order

•         Make photocopies as needed of forms for the Circulation Department

•         May be asked to work extra hours if needed following a library holiday

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

•         Attends departmental and other meetings as needed, some of which may be in the evening or on weekends

•         Assist in set-up for programs as needed

•         Other duties as assigned

ABILITY TO

•         Reach, grasp and handle library materials and supplies

•         Bend, twist, stoop and reach books and other library material on shelving from floor height to 7ft., using stepstools as needed;  push loaded book trucks and lift up to 35 lbs

•         Perform detailed work accurately

•         Work with a variety of staff members in a cordial and congenial manner         

•         Work independently

•         Strive for excellence in services provided to patrons and staff

•         Conduct all library business in a professional manner

•         Understand and follow supervisory guidance

•         Adhere to attendance requirements

•         Exercise judgment and initiative when necessary

•         Read and converse in the English language

•         Work with the necessary speed and accuracy to accomplish duties of library aide
